We wanted to take a minute to reflect on Independence Day and what it means.

The importance of Independence Day is often drowned out by the barbeques, fireworks and Will Smith movies about aggressive aliens. Although these things are all great, they can’t hold a candle to what the Fourth of July commemorates: the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

This is a day to reflect on the freedom and liberty that our country enjoys and has fought hard to protect. For that reason, we’d like to take a minute to thank the individuals who work tirelessly, and often thanklessly, to keep the freedom and liberty of our great nation alive.

We’d like to thank the government employees and federal workers who keep our agencies and government organizations running and providing important services for American citizens. We’d also like to thank America’s military men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our nation and its freedom, as well as its citizens and their way of life.

We hope that all of our readers have a happy and safe Independence Day. We look forward to next Tuesday when we return with another post about how great our federal government can be with UC.
